Sara and Martin Pena are the owners of Pena Meat & Food Market and live in the nearby community. YO! Mateo youth completed our second store makeover here in December 2011.
We removed a huge old produce refrigerator that wasn't working properly, scraped the dark paint off 5 large windows, and removed the exterior alcohol advertisements, finally allowing the sunlight to come through. In the words of Sara, who said she loves "the change of the whole environment in that section of the store. It looks more clear and the light comes in through the windows. It looks much prettier than before. People notice when they walk by and they want to see. People asked where we got the artwork because they want to get some like it too."
The beautiful cultural artwork we hung in the windows was generously donated by Sol y Luna Imports, a company owned by the uncle of Luis, the YO! Mateo team leader for this campaign. Check out their website at: www.solylunaimports.com
